The immersive video installation Listen explores constructions of identity and self-representation of children and adolescents on the Internet. Boys and girls sing cover songs of current pop stars like Miley Cyrus or Justin Bieber. Individuality and uniqueness get lost in the similarity of the protagonists‘ performances. While their faces pull through the room like an assembly line, their voices build a soundscape. Every once in a while isolated voices sound louder, but too short to be really listened to. The work is to be understood as a description of the relationship between adolescence and media in today’s world

Manja Eberts work is engaged with topics of pop culture, especially with self-staging on the Internet. Within this she is mainly interested in the themes posture, self-promotion as (self-) reflection in terms of mass media, staged reality and the curated self. For her spatial installations she often works with a simultaneous visual patchwork aesthetic and collaging sound to build choirs. Since her Graduation from Berlin University of the Arts she has been exhibiting her work in Germany and abroad, like Amsterdam, Athens and the Berlin Art Week.
